Bar Urca

Founded in 1939, Bar Urca is one of the most iconic establishments in Rio de Janeiro. Created by German and Swiss immigrants and later acquired by Portuguese owners, the bar was established with a simple mission: to serve good food and bring people together in one of the city’s most scenic settings—along the shores of Guanabara Bay, with a stunning view of Sugarloaf Mountain. Led by the third generation of the same family, the establishment continues to honor its roots while evolving with the times.

More than just a bar and restaurant, Bar Urca has become a meeting place for generations. Known for specialties such as shrimp pastries, savory pies, and cod fritters, it attracts both locals and visitors who gather to enjoy its warm hospitality. One of the most beloved traditions is sitting along the seaside wall with a drink and snacks, watching the sunset over the bay—a simple ritual that captures the spirit of the city.

Blending history, flavor, and breathtaking scenery, Bar Urca remains a timeless classic that perfectly reflects the charm and hospitality of Rio.
