This famous cafe restaurant was founded in 1782 and it’s one of the oldest in Lisbon. The great Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa still has his table there, as it used to be in the 1930s. The menu mainly consists of regional Portuguese cuisine. The pastéis de bacalhau (cod cakes) are to be found everywhere, but here they are cooked properly, with more salt cod than potato and deep fried to a golden brown.
